it's nice to be a tourist in your own town. i had a new photography friend, Scott, come to NY so we met up in the meat packing district and walked around. i knew where we were headed first thing since we were close to the village - John's Pizza. if you've never been, you've gotta go when you come to the city. we also hit up Magnolia Bakery because well, we were there.
actually, we went to the bakery first. ya gotta problem with that?? hehe
we decided to head down to wall street. our first stop was trinity church. the oldest church in the city. it's amazing that this church is still standing since it's right next door to ground zero. but nope, nothing - not even the beautiful stained glass windows - nothing broke. somebody was watching over that place that horrible day. it's where a lot of fireman and workers took refuge that day. whenever i walk in, i get all teary and emotional. it's just an amazing, small church and what most people don't know is the small tiny chapel off to the right. if you ever go, you must go in the back and check it out. here's a peak.
scott and i then walked to wall street and to battery park. now let me tell - it was cold yesterday...brrrr!! but it didn't stop us - we walked everywhere. when we got the park, down by the statue of liberty we found this.
a turkey vulture hanging out. even the policeman was taking a picture. only in NY folks.
yeah, that Morimoto from Iron Chef and he was there (which is crazy that he would be there since he has places all over the world). it was incredible - he came over to talk with us, he couldn't have been nicer. oh and the food, the best sushi ever! and the cooked dishes were beyond good! i've been to Nobu and it's not my favorite place. but this place, amazing! i highly recommend it. even just for the wow factor. and if you get there early, the bar is downstairs and ladies, the bathrooms - um, yeah, they have heated toilet seats. i'm not joking. and yes, i sat down- i know, i know it was a public bathroom...but let tell you, go get one. i went twice!
and i have to end with this image. perfect.
